Who We Are

Coldwater has the depth of skills and experience to develop sound, workable solutions to water- and shoreline-related issues and concerns.

Coldwater Consulting Ltd. was incorporated in 2007. Prior to establishing Coldwater, the firm's principals operated the Canadian office of a Pacific Northwest consulting firm. Our practice focuses on the application of leading-edge techniques in the development of sound, practical solutions to engineering problems.

Our Principals
Michael H. Davies, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., P.Eng.
  • In his 30 years as both an engineer and researcher, Mike has gained experience working on projects as diverse as artificial islands in the Beaufort Sea, dam revetment in Northern Quebec, port optimization in the Middle East, oil platform design in the Russian offshore, and coastal and waterway studies throughout North America. Mike is very involved in the design and analysis of coastal structures in the Maritimes and Great Lakes and is active in the development of strategies for coastal adaptation to climate change.
Neil J. MacDonald, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., P.Eng.
  • Neil is a wake and hydrodynamic modelling specialist. He has twenty-five years of experience in the development and application of computational models for the solution of a wide range of engineering problems for coasts, estuaries, lakes and rivers. In addition to his expertise in vessel wake hydrodynamics and impacts to shorelines, he has extensive experience in the use of physical models, field studies and analytical approaches. Neil has developed and marketed a number of computer models for the prediction of wave propagation and transformation, ship-induced wake and drawdown, and sediment transport.
